Keira's new bedroom to be

Another project on our list. After the bathroom gets done and if we have any money left we are going to remodel one of the upstairs bedrooms to be Keira's new room. As you can see right now it screams 1955. You gotta love the paneling on the walls. Keira's bedroom right now is on the main floor and she is a light sleeper like her mama. Even though she has a sound machine that blasts white noise while she sleeps she will wake up if we are too loud; and since she goes to bed around 630-7 pm ish that means we have to be quiet an awful lot. Hopefully moving her upstairs will solve that problem.

While Keira took a nap this morning I started demo on the paneling. I started pulling it all down. Yes I actually went down to Mike's workshop- grabbed a hammer and a crowbar and pulled paneling pieces off the wall. Of course when I got the electrical outlets I paniced and had to stop because I didn't want to get electrocuted.

This is the beautiful crappy floor that is up there right now. It reminds me of the cafeteria floor at elementary school. This will be replaced with pretty new bamboo flooring.

Hopefully this will be done by the fall. There are about 12 layers of wallpaper to remove under the paneling and walls to be painted, a new window to be installed, new flooring to be put in. In a few years our goal is to bump out our roof making our cape a dormered cape which will give us ALOT more room. So for now whatever we do up there is sort of temporary.

Why not just paint over the paneling? I had an apartment where we did that and it came out pretty darn good! And way less work! Some people call it brilliance, others call it lazy....whatever!

yeah that is what Mike said but you can still see that it is paneling under it. We might paint over wall paper though....

That will be a great room for Keira! My in-laws painted over the paneling and it actually looked shabby chic! But, since you have already started - go for it! Good luck!
